There is starting to be a bit of a backlash against Google now that it is getting to be a behemoth of a company. It isn’t uncommon to hear it being compared to Microsoft and their “evil” ways. The simple solution is that if you don’t feel comfortable using Google’s services, then don’t. There are competitors out there for almost all of Google’s services. You can even export a lot of your data out of Google thanks to the Google Data Liberation Front.
Personally, I have never had a negative experience with Google. Honestly! I have never had a bad experience any time that I have used one of Google’s services. I have tried a few services and found that I didn’t like them (Wave WTF?) and then moved on to something else, but I have not had a bad experience. No BSODs!
Google’s motto is “Don’t be evil” and, maybe gullibly, I believe it. Google is only collecting data that I give them access to. If I didn’t want them to have access to that data then why did I give it to them. It basically comes down to one thing, if you think they are evil then stop using Google. That’s it. Also, please stop complaining about free services!
Finally, I feel that Google’s brand has been built on customer loyalty and brand recognition. If Google wanted to exploit its users then it wouldn’t have users for much longer.
