Productivity tools are what help me, and you, get things done. This isn’t just limited to a David Allen way of getting things done. Productivity is important and anything that you can add to your arsenal to help you get things done better and more efficiently is worth talking about.
Using various productivity tools you are able to add automation to your workflow or discover areas of your workflow that could be eliminated or even outsourced. Yes, outsourcing can also be used as a productivity tool. In order to stay productive it isn’t efficient to ever do a repetitive task. Through the use of software or life hacks, you are able to work more efficiently and reduce the repetitive tasks.
It is also important to not let the tools take over. At times, I even find myself working on constructing the “perfect to-do list” rather than actually try to tick of the items on the list. Productivity tools can really help you leverage your time buy you have to know where to draw the line.

In a past life, I had a bit of an engineering/design/drafting background — if the words AutoCAD, SolidWorks or VectorWorks ring-a-bell then you’ll know what I mean. This technical background leads me to look at systems analytically and spot their downsides. I often look at how tasks are being accomplished and try to automate the repetitive parts.
Productivity tools propel me in internet business and attempt lifestyle design. These tools can be anything from simple life hacks to software tools. I’ve even been know to cobble together a few AppleScripts just to check the weather so that I don’t have to do the same thing every morning.
I’m also really interested in the way other people work and the processes they use to get things finished as efficiently as possible. Productivity tools are all a part of the way that you and I work.
I plan on sharing some of my workflows, as well as, quick productivity tips or tools that reduce the amount of steps to complete a task. In the past I focused a lot on software tools but, moving forward, I will work in some offline productivity tips.

I’ve never really used Rescue Time but I do use the Pomodoro technique when I really need to focus. I use this in a pinch but there are other tools out there: http://e.ggtimer.com/pomodoro
I’ve heard Dan talk about it so I am sure you’re already up on it.

Hey Matt.
I’m wondering if you do some kind of time tracking (e.g. Rescue Time or similar software). That’s something that I want to get started with.
