How many times have you gone to a profile page on Twitter or some other social network and were greeted by the stock avatar picture and no bio?
This is the equivalent of someone going to a dinner party wearing a bag over their head. Not very inviting, is it?
The first thing that you should do when creating a new profile is add a short blurb about yourself. It doesn’t have to be long winded and extremely detailed. Twitter limits you to 160 characters. I think this great. It forces you to be brief.
Personally, when I go to someone’s profile and there is no information about that person, I don’t really feel compelled to interact with that person.
It’s okay to add a bit of humour to your bio but “Avenger of all things white” doesn’t tell me why I should care about you or what you have to say.
Some suggestions for the information to include in your profile description are:
Of course, the above are just suggestions. Be creative and introduce yourself. If you’re joining the social network and you’re passionate about your hobbies, then highlight those. If you’re passionate about your business or brand, then highlight that. A little goes a long way.
