Some of you may have noticed that I have taken a short break from posting here. The break was partly planned and partly unintentional.
Summer is always a busy time of year for me. Partially because my schedule always goes out the window and partially because my wife and I usually take a trip somewhere during this time. This year we took a brief trip to the Philippines. We had a few hicups with our travel plans and the weather didn’t always cooperate but overall it was nice to get away for a bit.
I scheduled a few posts so this site wouldn’t be completely devoid of content. You may have received new content even though I haven’t actually written anything here for over a month.
The downside to taking a vacation is that when you get back you discover that you have a whole bunch of tasks that need to be caught up with. In order to catchup I choose to stop posting here and concentrate my attention on tasks that were more pressing.
I realised I had become a slave to my own website. I had set out a posting schedule for myself in order to keep things fresh. I have three main features here, Mondays for Quick Tips, Fridays for Five for Friday roundups and midweek I write a “meatier” post. That makes for three posts a week. However, I’ve decided to take a new approach.
I decided to drop one post (or maybe even two posts) a week. This brings me down to one or two posts a week. The hard part was deciding which feature to drop.
I enjoy coming up with new posts each week. The Quick Tips give me a chance to answer questions that I get asked all the time. Five for Friday lets me share some of the really interesting items that I come across each week. The “meatier” posts give me a chance to really dig into a specific topic or concept.
The negative side of creating three posts a week is that I spend less time focusing on the more important things. What I write here is more about a labour of love than about direct profitability. However, a lot of the things that I learn here allows me to earn a bit providing services.
Instead of dropping one or two of the features completly I’ve decided to just post them less frequently. Quick Tips will still be posted on Monday. Five for Friday will still be posted on Friday. You will also find some meatier posts here but not all three in one week.
For example, I might post a Five for Friday one week, Quick Tips the following week and a big meaty post the week after that.
Sound good? I hope so. Send me an email or post a comment and let me know what you think about my new approach.
