The launch of Apple’s iPad imminent and there have been many articles and blog posts written about it. However, it looks like it isn’t living upto the expectations of some hopeful gadget hounds. Let’s take a look at some of these criticisms. An iPad isn’t…
The iPad isn’t a netbook, or a small computer with a tiny keyboard. It doesn’t even have a keyboard! It won’t have an Atom processor so it won’t have the battery life that is expected from a netbook. It won’t even have the same graphics processor that you’d expect in such a small device.
The iPad isn’t able to run Adobe Flash. It will not be possible to watch web video on this device. Most of the large web video providers – like YouTube, Vimeo, Brightcove or TED – just aren’t going to work on the iPad.
The iPad isn’t an Android device. Users of the iPad will have to suffer with only the apps that are available in the iTunes App store. Sadly, all of those wonderful Android apps won’t work on the iPad.
The iPad isn’t a Windows compatible device so it does not run any version of Windows. Unfortunately it will not run Internet Explorer. This device is limited to displaying webpages that are only web standards compliant. Furthermore, since it can’t run Windows there are no anti-virus programs available for it.
The iPad isn’t a device for professionals, it’s just a toy. It isn’t able to run any of the programs that a professional needs. A true professional needs to have MS Office installed or at least Mobile Office.
These are just a few of the complaints that have surfaced since the announcement in January. With all of the iPad’s limitations I wonder if anyone is going to want to buy one. Who would want to spend their hard earned money on a device that obviously has so many strikes against it and is a victim to the highly criticized “Apple Tax”? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
